Système de couleurs DIN 6164
DIN est une norme de standardisation développée par l’Institut allemand de normalisation (Deutsches Institut für Normung). La norme DIN 6164, comme Munsell, est définie comme un ensemble d’échantillons équidistants, elle est basée sur le système colorimétique CIE 1931. Le système DIN définit environ 600 couleurs, caractérisées par la Teinte, la Saturation et l’obscurité (T:S:D). Il existe 24 teintes (autour du cercle chromatique) ayant jusqu’à 6 niveaux de saturation chacun (0 étant achromatique) et jusqu’à 7 niveaux d’obscurité.
Dès les années 1930, l’Institut allemand de normalisation (DIN) a confié à Manfred Richter la tâche de créer un système de couleurs fondé sur la science des couleurs pour qu’il devienne une norme. Les premiers résultats furent avancés à partir de 1953. Un essai avec des centaines de personnes a conduit à créer une roue chromatique avec les mêmes distances possibles entre les couleurs individuelles. Le résultat était une roue chromatique avec 24 nuances « équidistantes ». Le système de couleurs DIN est spécifié par les variables de tonalité de couleur DIN (T), de niveau de saturation DIN (S) et de niveau d’obscurité DIN (D), qui sont les coordonnées du tableau tridimensionnel. Le noir idéal a le niveau d’obscurité 10, le blanc idéal ainsi que les couleurs optimales ont le niveau d’obscurité 0. Ce ne sont donc pas des couleurs de même luminosité, mais de même luminosité relative qui sont attribuées les unes aux autres. Les niveaux de saturation se situent dans le point achromatique S = 0 et dans le cercle chromatique DIN S = 6. Entre 1960 et 1962, anviron 600 échantillons de couleurs ont été produits et publiés sous la forme DIN 6164 (source : https://www.torso.de).
